What is FuXiDroid?

FuXiDroid (pronounced foo-see-droid) is a FREE application for the Android platform to help learners of Chinese improve their vocabulary. Its built-in dictionary makes it easy to store words or phrases encountered in everyday life. They can replayed at a later time as flashcards to help with memorization, and can be imported or exported in a text-based CSV file format.

Features

Brief summary of existing features:

  1. Add, search, delete words or phrases.
  2. Built-in dictionary automatically resolves PinYin and English definitions for common words.
  3. Replay words in forward, backward or random order in a flashcard manner.
  4. Export all words or phrases to a CSV format file on the SD-Card.
  5. Import (append) from any text-based source in CSV format, such as a file on SD-Card or the Internet.

Screen Shots

The following are some actual screen shots of FuXiDroid 1.0 in action. They were taken from the Android SDK emulator.

Add word screenshot Adding a new word. First enter the new word in the HanZi text-field, then press the Check button. PinYin and Definitions are automatically resolved. The New word icon to the right of the Definitions label indicates that this word does not yet exist in the word list. If the word already exists in the word list, the Existing word icon will be shown instead, and the Delete button will be enabled.
Revise word as flashcard screenshot Revising words/phrases as flashcards. First, the HanZi is shown by itself. Tap on it reveals the PinYin and Definitions. Click on the Next to show the next word/phrase.
